Stricker 29th at U.S. Open
Steve Stricker of Madison tied for 29th at the U.S. Open golf tournament.
He shot a one-over-par 72 Sunday to finish at eight-over-292 at Torrey Pines near San Diego, Calif.
Stricker made his first cut in five tries. He said he was happy with his play after taking a couple weeks off to clear his head and rest a sore elbow.
Stricker plans to take two more weeks off, and return for the AT&T National over the Fourth of July. He wants to pace himself, in the hopes of making the U.S. Ryder Cup team this fall.
Stricker was nine shots behind co-leaders Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate. They'll go for the title today (Monday) in an 18-hole playoff.
