Student poets honored in state contest
Not everyone knows that April is National Poetry Appreciation month.
But two New Richmond High School students recently became very appreciative of the poetic justice April has provided them.
NRHS senior Emily Deiss and sophomore Jackson Scott recently learned that their poems are among six honored in a state-wide contest sponsored by the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets.
Deiss's poem, "Crunching of Leaves," took second place in the competition of 350 entries.
Scott's poem, "Allergy," earned an honorable mention from Madison poet Jeri McCormick, who judged the entries.
McCormick is the recipient of a Wisconsin Arts Board Fellowship and an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Wisconsin Library Association.
