To say Roberts Good Neighbor Days went well last weekend is an understatement.

"This year's event exceeded our expectations in pretty much every way," said Roberts Lions Club President Geno Hanson. "We had great weather and great attendance. It created the perfect storm for a great weekend. This year's event was one of the better years."

He said in addition to the wonderful weather, the support of area residents and businesses helped make this year's event successful.

"In addition to people coming down and spending money at Good Neighbor Days, anytime we needed anything, regardless of the business or individual, they were right there to help out," he said.

More than 650 people came to the park Thursday night for the Community Appreciation Dinner hosted by the Roberts Citizen State Bank. During the dinner Marge Wolske received the Roberts Good Neighbor Award. She tearfully accepted the prestigious community honor.

Around 1,600 people attended the tractor pull on Friday night and the big tent was full on Saturday night when the Arch Allies rocked the stage.

He said this year's three new events all had high attendance, too.

Eighteen teams participated in the mud volleyball tournament on Saturday afternoon. Around 30 people participated in the afternoon Texas Hold 'Em tournament. And about 120 people attended the ecumenical church service under the tent on Sunday morning.

Pagaent

Hanson said there was a great group of young women working for Miss Roberts and ambassador positions this year.

This year's royal candidates included: Harley McDaniel, Katie Rohl-Benysek, Courtney Morgan, Kayla Francis, Haley Hoolihan, Trari Babbitt, Alexandra Louise LaPitz, Diane Anderson and Gabrielle Nippoldt.

Haley Hoolihan earned the title of Miss Roberts 2012. She also was the candidate who sold the most raffle tickets. She is the daughter of Chris and Christy Hoolihan.

Harley McDaniel's outgoing and humorous personality helped her earn the title of Ambassador and Miss Congeniality 2012. She was also the candidate who received the most returned invites for the pancake breakfast. McDaniel is the daughter of Todd and Kim Hamilton.

Katie Rohl-Benysek earned the title of Roberts Ambassador and she also was the candidate who sold the most Roberts Good Neighbor Days buttons. She is the daughter of Joe and Karen Benysek.

Trari Babbitt also earned the title of Roberts Ambassador. She is the daughter of Gretchen Babbitt.

Ava Nippoldt won the title of Junior Miss Roberts via random drawing. She is the daughter of Greg and Rachel Nippoldt.

"There's no doubt those girls will do a terrific job representing Roberts over the next year," Hanson said.

Medallion Hunt

The Hetrick family seems to be making a tradition of finding the Central St. Croix Area Chamber of Commerce medallion on the first day of the hunt.

Last year, Nate Hetrick and his twin sons, Caleb and Cory, found the medallion around noon on the first day of the hunt.

This year, Nate's wife, Kelly and their daughters, Carly and Caty, participated in the hunt as well.

The Hetrick men started their hunt in the morning on Tuesday, May 29. By 1 p.m., the Hetrick females found the medallion hidden behind the electrical box on the Roberts water tower.

The Hetricks say the medallion hunt is a fun thing they can do together.

"It's a team effort," Kelly said. "We all like following the clues and the end prize."

For finding the medallion, the Hetricks received $250 from the Chamber.

The prize money will go toward an in-ground basketball hoop for the family, Kelly said.

The Hetricks hope to continue their reign by finding the medallion again next year.
