Sunrise Styles moves downtown
Sunrise Styles has found a new home at 118 Spring St. in Somerset, at the back of the building behind Tammy Jackson’s Body Architect Studio 118.
Owner Lori Demulling, who is renting the space with one of her best friends, Apple River Salon’s Angie Charland, said the Spring Street building is kind of like a one-stop shop for health and beauty.
“It’s a fitness and beauty mix,” Demulling said. “It’s a space that fits all of us. Tammy found a space that would work well for us all.”
Demulling was scheduled to open at her new location Tuesday, April 1. She had operated the salon out of her home on Sunrise Drive for the past 15 years, but recently sold her home in preparation for her marriage to Jason Watters.
“It’s good to get into a commercial area,” Demulling said.
Charland said she and Demulling opted to rent a space together rather than renting chairs at other salons. Charland will still run her business out of her home for at least a month, and will then be based at 118 Spring St.
Demulling and Charland, who were born and raised in Somerset, have been friends since their school days and have both been hair stylists for 20-plus years. While in school they played softball together. Their first jobs in the stylist industry were together at Sue’s Hair Design in Somerset.
“We just clicked right away,” Demulling said. “We’ve been best friends for a long time.”
Charland, who is engaged to Cory Kohls, said they will offer haircuts for the whole family, coloring/foiling, perming, facial waxing, wedding and prom updos and many other services. They hope to eventually expand services to include other options.
Both women said their fiances have been instrumental in helping them realize their business goals.
“That man has done everything to help me move this,” Demulling said of Watters. “He is so amazing.”
Demulling has three daughters: Siera, Shyanne and Shanae. Siera is following in her mother’s footsteps by going to the Minnesota School of Cosmetology.
Charland also has three children: Paige, Hunter and Gabby. She is also a brand new grandmother to Beau, she said.
The women will continue to operate under their separate business names, but in one location. Appointments are preferred for scheduling ease, but walk-ins are more than welcome if time permits, the ladies said.
