Suspect arrested in SCC school fire
Roberts Police Chief Dan Burgess announced Thursday evening (May 2) that a suspect has been arrested following the investigation of the St. Croix Central Elementary School fire.
Burgess made the announcement at a community meeting held by the St. Croix Central School District to update parents and community members on plans to resume classes.
"I normally get to be a downer and tell you what you need to be worried about," Burgess said, "but tonight I get the experience to tell you what you need to not be worried about."
At 5 p.m. Thursday, Burgess said, the efforts of a team of investigators paid off, and a suspect was arrested.
Burgess said charges are pending from the St. Croix County District Attorney's office.
The Roberts Police Department was aided in the investigation by the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation, the upper Midwest field office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Wisconsin State Patrol, the River Falls Police Department, the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office, the Hudson Police Department and several members of the community.
Fire crews responded to the fire at SCC Elementary at around 3:44 a.m. Tuesday, April 30. The school has been closed for the remainder of the year, and classes cancelled for the rest of the week.
Classes will resume Monday, May 6, at Rolling Ridges Girl Scout Camp near Hudson.
