Swapping the old for new
New Richmond Wisconsin 127 South Knowles Avenue 54017

New Richmond residents will soon have another reason to go shopping - to help the animals at Gregory's Gift of Hope.

On April 25, New Richmond area residents will be able to participate in a clothing swap at Ready Randy's, 1490 131st St. in New Richmond.

The swap, hosted by Sofia Gigure, founder of Blondie's Gift for Gregory's, is exactly what it sounds like - swapping of clothes.

For $5, are residents are able to participate by swapping their gently used clothing for others.

Each article of clothing is considered "one credit" and can be used to "buy" one other piece of clothing.

Those without clothes to swap are also able to participate for $10. That fee allows entry to the event and five credits - or the ability to "buy" five items.

All admission fees will be given to Gregory's Gift of Hope, said Karen Gigure, Sofia's mom.

Blondie's Gift for Gregory's was started by Sofia Gigure, a first-grader at Hillside Elementary. Her love of animals inspired her to start the fundraiser that will benefit Gregory's Gift of Hope, an animal rescue/re-home program located south of New Richmond.

The clothing swap doesn't benefit only GGOH, Karen Gigure said. It keeps clothes out of the landfill, make affordable clothing available to those who can't afford to buy new things and all left over clothes will be donated Five Loaves Food Shelf & Clothing Center.

Through donations and selling Blondie's Friendship Tea and treat boxes, Gigure has already raised $924.50 of her $10,000 goal.

Clothes accepted for swap include clean, gently used men's, women's, children's and infant clothing, purses and handbags. Residents who donate blankets to Gregory's will also receive one credit per blanket.

Ready Randy's is donating the space for the event and St. Croix Harley Davidson donated 125 coats to the swap from their winter coat promotion.
