The Middle Border Conference co-champion Somerset girls basketball team has drawn three places on the 2011 All-MBC team.

Seniors Ashley Martell and Karli Solum and junior Paige Wagner were all first team All-MBC selections this season.

New Richmond had one player earn All-MBC honors. Senior point guard Laura Troftgruben was honored with first team status.

The Spartans showcased a diverse offensive attack this season, with the three all-conference selections leading the way.

Martell is one of the premier offensive players in the area. She passed the 1,000-point milestone midway through the season and she kept on rolling up big numbers from there.

Opponents had to respect Martell's skills because she could score from anywhere in the offensive half of the court. She was a deadly accurate outside shooter and she also was fearless in her drives to the basket.

One of the big differences for the Spartans was Solum's return to the team. She missed her junior season with a major back injury.

The MBC was packed this season with talented teams that used full-court pressure to turn games in their favor. Teams that were successful were those that could handle the press. With Solum as the Spartans' primary ball handler, few teams had success pressing the Spartans. Solum was also a strong defender and rebounder.

Wagner's progress this season fortified the Spartans at both ends of the court. She was a gritty defensive player. On offense, she was a highly confident player who stepped up when the team was struggling.

Troftgruben's energetic style of play helped her lead the Tigers in many offensive categories this season.

She ranked first on the team in total points, assists, steals, three-point percentage, three-point shots attempted and three-point shots made.

She averaged 7.2 points per game, 2.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 2.4 steals this season.
