Tiger dance team earns sixth, seventh place at state meet
The New Richmond High School dance team had a great experience at the state competition, which was held last Saturday at the La Crosse Center in La Crosse.
The team got a huge send off at the high school just before they loaded the bus to head to La Crosse. With awards being given to the top five teams in each category, the Tiger dance team took sixth place, just missing a trophy with their kick routine.
"The girls had stellar performances and wowed the crowd," said Tiger coach Ali Saliny. "This team handled themselves well, they stood up to the pressure of being at a state level competition and both performances were almost flawless."
Saliny said that with the team's strong finish at their regional competition and another year of working together, this team will again be a strong competitor at the state level next year.
"We have quite a few young dancers on this team and I'm confident that next year will prove to be another successful competition year for this team," Saliny said.
Two Tiger individuals auditioned for the All-State dance team; a total of 52 dancers auditioned. The All-State judges chose both Tiger sophomores Rylie Berger and Antje Utgaard to the All-State dance team.
"This is a huge honor, these girls were competing against some of the best dancers in the state and they had great success," Saliny said. "Both Rylie and Antje had outstanding performances."
These girls had to choreograph and perform a solo dance in front of a panel of judges; this too, took place last Saturday in La Crosse.
St. Croix Central
Central competed in Division 2 with their jazz routine. The team took 10th overall.
