Tigers bombard B-W, Amery
New Richmond Wisconsin 127 South Knowles Avenue 54017

The Middle Border Conference isn't proving to be much of a test for the New Richmond boys hockey team.

The Tigers are now 5-0 in the MBC after outscoring their opponents 20-2 in a pair of conference games last week.

Last Tuesday the Tigers figured out the defensive leanings of the Baldwin-Woodville/St. Croix Central team and won 7-1. On Saturday the Tigers played at Amery. This game was no contest from the opening minutes, with the Tigers dominating quickly and thoroughly. The game ended up with the Tigers winning 13-1.

The game against B-W/SCC was one of the better challenges the Tigers have gotten from the MBC season. The Blackhawks weren't overly concerned with scoring, instead they were chasing the puck and dumping it to center ice whenever possible to cut down on the Tigers' scoring opportunities.

The Tigers eventually worked through the B-W system, scoring four goals in the third period to build up the 7-1 margin.

Kyle Dove scored the only goal of the first period, and goalie Matt Page stopped a breakaway in the final minute to keep the Tigers in the lead.

Page only had to make a total of five saves in the game.

Matt Knutson got his first varsity playing time in goal for the Tigers in Saturday's game at Amery. Knutson saved eight of the nine shots he faced, as the Tigers scored more goals than the number of shots their opponents could manage in both of these games.

Luke Jensen, Danny Bergman and Kenny Walters each notched hat tricks during Saturday's win at Amery. Justin Elmer, Josh Calleja, Tommy Wells and Dove also scored in the game.

The Tigers are now in the second half of their MBC schedule. That includes a game Thursday at Somerset and a home game next Tuesday against the Chippewa Falls McDonell-Eau Claire Regis combined team.
