This was the completion of a match that had been rained out at Unity three days earlier.

With the win the Tigers end the Middle Border Conference dual meet season with a 6-1 record. Durand wins the MBC dual championship this season with a 7-0 record.

The Middle Border Conference Tournament was scheduled to be played at Durand on Tuesday. The Tigers now move on to WIAA tournament play. The WIAA Division 2 subsectional tournament will be played in New Richmond next Monday.

That will be followed by the WIAA Division 2 sectional meet, which will also be played in New Richmond, on Thursday, Oct. 7.

The match against Unity proved to be a good competition for the Tigers, especially in the upper end matches. Unity's Carrie Kothlow is considered the top singles player in the area. New Richmond's Kristen Holle gave Kothlow a major battle in the first set, losing 7-6. Kothlow then took charge in the second set, winning 6-2.

"It was an awesome match," said Tiger coach Teresa Kvam. "It's hard to stay with Carrie when she gets on a roll like she did in the second set."

Unity also has a strong number two singles play in Amber L'Allier. She and New Richmond's Alyssa Jerlow locked up in a good match. L'Allier took the first set 6-3. Jerlow then came back to win the final two sets by 6-3 scores.

Kvam said the number one singles match was extremely closely matched. New Richmond's Heather Pederson and Beth Plourde won the first set 6-3, but were beaten in the final two sets by 6-4 scores.

The Tigers also got a good win at two doubles, where Gretchen Anderson and Ellen Railsback teamed up for a 6-3, 7-5 win.
