Tournament to honor former New Richmond hockey player
The first Josh Goodrich Memorial JV Hockey Tournament will be held in New Richmond this Friday and Saturday.
The weekend will be a celebration of the life of the former New Richmond hockey player who died in a car accident on July 30, 2012.
“Josh was an outstanding student, teammate and overall person,” said tournament director John Larson.
Goodrich was a member of the New Richmond Hockey Association for 10 years, playing goaltender at every youth level. He was part of the New Richmond team that won the Bantam B state championship in 2009.
“Josh will be remembered as a caring and passionate team member who was committed to helping the Tigers be successful,” Larson said.
All proceeds from the tournament go to the Josh Goodrich Scholarship that is being started this year. The tournament is planned to be an annual event. A two-day 50-50 raffle will be part of the tournament and fans attending the tournament can make scholarship donations.
The tournament will feature four junior varsity boys hockey teams. Two games will be played on Friday night. Chippewa Falls will face Hudson at 5 p.m. on Friday in the opening game. That will be followed by New Richmond battling Spooner at 7 p.m. Action will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday with the third place game. The tournament championship game will be played at 4 p.m. on Saturday. All games will be played at the New Richmond Sports Center.
