Two infants airlifted following Burnett County crash
One-month-old twins were airlifted to Regions Hospital following a single-car accident Friday even in Burnett County near Siren, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.
The accident – which occurred on Hwy. 70 near Triangle Lane in the Burnett County town of Dewey -- was reported just before 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6.
According to the Patrol, a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Jennifer M. Smith, 38, Naples, Fla., was traveling west when she lost control of the car, which slid into the ditch and struck a large tree.
The three children riding in the rear seat were injured.
Twin month-old boys, Mason and Milo Smith, were transported to Spooner Hospital and then airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with injuries the Patrol called “life-threatening.” A spokeswoman for Regions said Monday mornng that she had no information on the boys.
Jennifer Smith and Malainey M. Smith, 3, were taken to Spooner Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. All three children were in safety seats at the time of the accident. The woman was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the Patrol.
According to the State Patrol, alcohol was a factor in the crash, the accident remains under investigation, and charges are pending.
Agencies assisting at the accident site, included Burnett County Sheriff, St Croix Tribal Fire Department, and Burnett County Highway Department.
