Ultralight crash kills husband, wife critical
A woman was in critical condition at last word, after the crash of a pontoon-style ultraight plane in which her husband died.
It happened Saturday, soon after it took off from Lake John in Oconto County.
A 50-year-old man from Cary, Ill., was killed, and his 45-year-old wife had head injuries and fractured limbs.
Witnesses said the plane clipped a group of trees soon after it took off and it crashed into a house. No one in the house was injured.
The witnesses said the plane apparently had engine trouble and could not gain the proper altitude.
Federal officials are investigating.
Officials said the couple spent a few days at the EAA AirVenture Show in Oshkosh. They then went to see friends in Lakewood before trying to head back home.
The EAA Show ended Sunday.
