UPDATE: Gunshot victim identified
A 53-year-old woman was found dead from a gunshot wound in Somerset around 4:46 p.m. on Monday, April 23.
The St. Croix County Emergency Communications Center received a call from a male subject reporting he found his wife deceased in a field near the intersection of County Highway VV and 50th Street in the Town of Somerset.
The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office responded and found Jane Byrne of Somerset dead of an apparent gunshot wound.
An autopsy determined the gunshot to be self-inflicted. Deputies say Byrne was dressed for turkey hunting and they are trying to determine if the death was an accident or intentional.
No further details are being released at this time pending further investigation by the Sheriff's Office.
