UPDATE: Man injured in I-94 rollover dies
A 27-year-old man injured in a single-car accident July 3 died yesterday (Wednesday, July 10), according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Joshua J. Weyker, Menomonie, was a front-seat passenger in a Chevrolet Impala driven by his wife when the accident occurred at 11:53 a.m. July 3 on the westbound side of I-94 at Milepost 36.5 near Knapp in Dunn County. He was transported to Luther Hospital in Eau Claire with life-threatening injuries.
According to the State Patrol, the Weyker car veered onto the left roadway shoulder and subsequently rolled over.
Heidi Weyker, 22, Menomonie, was wearing her seatbelt and sustained minor injuries. She was evaluated for her injuries by EMS personnel at the scene.
The patrol said Joshua Weyker, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was ejected from the car and partially pinned beneath it when troopers arrived.
Both lanes of I-94 westbound were blocked at the crash location for about 1.5 hours while emergency personnel freed the man from under the car and worked to document and clear the scene. The westbound traffic backup reached five miles before the lanes were opened.
Assisting agencies included the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department, Menomonie Fire and EMS, and Mayo 1 helicopter.
According to Sgt. Michael Melgaard, Heidi Weyker will be cited for operating a motor vehicle while suspended and for not having insurance on the vehicle.
The crash remains under investigation by the State Patrol.
