According to a Wisconsin State Patrol press release, Joann Nova Yahnke, 32, of Prior Lake, Minn., was driving a 2006 Dodge pickup hauling a horse trailer. Mark John Blair, 54, of Lowry, Minn. was driving a 1990 Kenworth semi loaded with a 'wide load' tractor.

As Yahnke turned east onto County Rd. N from Hwy. 65, Blair's eastbound semi failed to stop at the stop sign on County Rd. N at Hwy. 65. It struck the pickup's passenger side.

A River Falls ambulance transported Yahnke to River Falls Area Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Blair and a passenger in the semi were unhurt.

The pickup came to rest on its roof in the ditch. Its trailer disconnected during the collision but landed upright in the opposite ditch. The press release says Yahnke's horse in the trailer died after the crash.

The semi landed upright in the ditch beside the pickup and required a tow truck to remove it after removing the tractor it was hauling.

St. Croix County Sheriff's deputies, River Falls and Roberts/Warren ambulance and fire departments, several Wisconsin Highway Patrol officers, and Jerry's Towing responded to the scene.

A State Patrol representative said Monday (Aug. 17) that the agency will complete a crash investigation this week.
