Veterans Day events planned at SCC schools
Veterans Day is Wednesday, Nov. 11. Events have been planned at the St. Croix Central Schools.
The elementary school will celebrate Veterans Day with an all-school assembly at 9 a.m. This is the fourth year the school has hosted the event.
All veterans are invited to participate in the event. Contact Principal Steve Sanders at 749-3119 for more details.
The school is located at 202 S. Division St., Roberts.
The middle school will also hold an all-school assembly on Wednesday. It will begin at 1:45 p.m. Local veterans and community members are welcome to attend.
The ceremony is expected to last about an hour. There will be musical selections and presentations by the student council, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Additionally, the winning "honoring all who serve" poster from the school-wide contest will be featured in the program. All other posters will be displayed for visitors to see.
Prior to the assembly, veterans are invited to join the students for lunch at 12:30 p.m. The lunch is free, and offers veterans a chance to visit with each other before the program. Veterans are not required to participate in the meal to attend the ceremony.
The school is located at 1751 Vine St., Hammond. Call Laura Fern at 796-2256 to reserve a seat (not required, but to help estimate number of seats needed) or for more information.
The high school won't be hosting a ceremony to honor veterans on Wednesday. Instead, the Wall of Heroes display, recently moved to the main entry, honors former and active military personnel year round. Veterans are encouraged to be a part of the display.
Residents of the St. Croix Central School District or graduates from the school are eligible to be part of the display, which includes a short biography and photo of the service member.
"Anyone who has served or is serving is welcome to give me their information. Everyone who has served deserves to be recognized," said Sue Frank, organizer, in an e-mail.
Basic information, like branch of service, rank and commendations, is asked for the display. Frank has forms already made up. Forms are available at the high school, 1751 Broadway St., Hammond, and on the school's Web site, www.scc.k12.wi.us. Frank asks that pictures be no larger than 5-by-7 inches. Both formal and informal pictures are welcome.
Frank can be reached at email@example.com or 715-796 5383 for more information.
