Shortly after World War I, the VFW began an assistance program for disabled veterans, which quickly grew into an established tradition across the country. This endeavor lead to the "Flower of Remembrance," that eventually turned into the VFW "Buddy Poppy" which is now being distributed throughout our nation. Memorial Day is a special time of the year for the distribution of Buddy Poppies, as we give remembrance, respect and honor to our war dead, wounded and disabled veterans, active duty service members and their families.

Money raised through Buddy Poppy donations is used to support the entire range of VFW Post 10818 services throughout New Richmond and surrounding communities. Buddy Poppy funds can be used only for the needs of veterans, active duty personnel and their families. In certain situations assistance is given in a private, confidential setting, given respectfully and in a thankful manner by a VFW or Ladies Auxiliary volunteer.

VFW members firmly believe that service to country does not end when we trade in our uniform for civilian clothes.

We have received great support from community businesses and citizens. It is appropriate for this campaign to give a special thank you to the above mentioned businesses for their ongoing support of our veterans, current active duty personnel and their families.

A special thought and prayer is also given to our Company B soldiers and families.
