Village trustee position still vacant
There is still a seat open on the Somerset Village Board.
Ryan Halverson, who won a seat on the board in the spring election, had moved out of the Somerset area with his family earlier this fall. His term was to be up in April 2011.
At the October board meeting, Pam Donohoe, village clerk, said that only one person had shown interest in the trustee position. However, as of Nov. 5, she had not heard any further interest.
The board consists of six trustees and the village president. Board members meet the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Village Hall. Various board members also sit on committees, such as public safety, public works, finance, emergency government, planning commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Board of Review, Police Board of Review, fire/rescue, industrial committee and Main Street loan committee.
According to Donohoe, the new trustee would serve only one year on the board to finish out the term, but can run for re-election in 2011.
However, Donohoe explained, the board does not have to fill the vacancy and could just wait until the term is over.
The item will be discussed at the upcoming board meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m.
