Feeling a little love in your heart?
Love Baskets, the volunteer group that gives holiday gifts to needy families in the New Richmond and Somerset school districts, is having a meeting for people interested in volunteering on Monday, Nov. 14, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in New Richmond.
According to Kay Brooks, one of the organizers of the program, the program helped 300 local families last year.
The group gathers names of local families in need via schools, churches, public health agencies and concerned friends and neighbors. The group then gets a wish list from the needy family, particularly the children under 18. Donation suggestions are placed in area businesses where people can drop off their items or people can call Grace Place at 715-247-2944 and sponsor a family. Ultimately, there will be a party on Dec. 18 in Somerset for the families to attend and pick up their gifts in time for the holidays.
Volunteers are needed not only for monetary donations, but to help sort and wrap the gifts one week before the party. They also need people the day of the party to set up and clean up.
Love Baskets is made up of several local churches, The Salvation Army, Toys for Tots and concerned individuals.
