Wall of Heroes being created at SCC
A St. Croix Central High School student is doing her part to honor area service women and men, both living and deceased.
Junior Cassie Helmer, with help from Sue Frank and the Family Leaders of America, has a display case in the works at the school. The case, called the Wall of Heroes, will contain pictures and short biographies of people in the service.
The case isn't limited to SCC graduates either, said Frank. Anyone living in the District with current or previous military experience is welcome to be in the display.
Helmer said she wanted to work on this project because her grandpa, Phil Erwin, is in the Coast Guard.
Veterans and active duty personnel shouldn't be remembered just on Veterans Day, said Helmer.
"We have people at war. Why not honor them?" Helmer said.
Information Helmer would like for the biography includes name, address, high school graduated from, branch of the military served in, dates started, years served, theaters served in and any special commendations earned.
Helmer said organizers would prefer pictures of the soldiers in uniform. If none are available, they will take any other pictures. Additionally, the pictures should be no bigger than 5-by-7.
The case will be permanently located right outside the High School gym. Ethan Hofland is currently building the cabinet with the assistance of Pat Abair, tech ed teacher.
There is no deadline for submission but they hope to have the case ready by Jan. 1, Frank said.
