Walmart rewards Somerset Middle School staff
New Richmond Wisconsin 127 South Knowles Avenue 54017

A $1,000 donation from the Walmart Teacher Rewards Program turned into a fun-packed event for staff and students at the Somerset Middle School.

Twenty staff members received $50 gift cards for use in their classrooms through the Walmart program. This wasn't done in a formal presentation. It was done as part of a Homecoming pepfest at the middle school and the students were at their highest energy level for the game that decided which staff members would receive the gift cards.

Chris Scherber Larson, the customer service supervisor at the New Richmond Walmart, made the presentations with the help of Middle School Principal Sara Eichten. Larson brought a game called "Punch Out," where 50 cups were numbered and each cup had the name of a staff member inside. Students got to help Eichten pick which number to punch by yelling out their choice of numbers. Every student got into the act, with the yelling reaching incredibly loud levels.

Each of the winning 20 staff members came down to receive a package from Larson that included their $50 gift card.

Eichten said the donation from Walmart was an incredible gesture to recognize the school staff. The gift cards can be used for anything the teachers need for their classrooms.

"It's good for our teachers to be celebrated," Eichten said. "It was a very generous donation."

The Teacher Rewards Program is a national Walmart program to benefit classrooms at the start of the school year.
