WIAA championship football games get underway today
Four championship games are on tap today (Thursday), as the WIAA state high school football finals begin at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.
Six of the eight teams on today's schedule are undefeated and one is going for its sixth consecutive title. That's Stratford, which suffered its only loss this year to the team they'll play in today's Division 6 final, unbeaten Edgar. That game is set for 1 p.m.
First up is the Division 7 final at 10 a.m. between Burlington Catholic Central and Hilbert, both of whom are 13-0. It's been at least four years since either school made the trip to Madison.
The Division-Five title game will be played at 4 p.m. between Colby and Cedar Grove-Belgium, both also at 13-0. Cedar Grove-Belgium is making its first state tournament appearance, while Colby last appeared in 1998 when it won a state title.
The day's final game is the Division 4 championship at 7 p.m. Unbeaten Walworth Big Foot will take on 12-1 Wautoma-Faith Christian.
The other three divisional title games will be played Friday.
