Williams said to be front-runner for Marquette post
Marquette men's basketball assistant Buzz Williams appears to be the early front-runner to replace his former boss Tom Crean.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said Williams, 35, talked with school officials about the vacancy on Wednesday, but no one has confirmed it on the record.
Williams has spent one year at Marquette and he has a year of head coaching experience at New Orleans, where he went 14-17 in 2006-07.
The paper also said Marquette apparently targeted Washington State coach Tony Bennett and Xavier's Sean Miller, but neither was interested in leaving their current posts.
Crean left for Indiana on Tuesday after nine years with the Golden Eagles.
Williams is said to have a solid relationship with the players.
He was also the main recruiter for incoming freshmen Chris Otule, Joseph Fulce, and Tyshawn Taylor.
