Winona bridge opens to heavy trucks
Heavy trucks are once again using Wisconsin's only bridge to Winona, Minn.
The Highway 43 bridge over the Mississippi River was reopened to truck traffic Monday night, about 10 days ahead of schedule.
The structure was closed to everybody for 11 days in June, after Minnesota inspectors found corroded gusset plates on the Wisconsin end.
Cars and light trucks have been using the bridge while the repairs began on the gusset plates 11 days ago.
Crews still have to fix the sidewalks and bridge joints starting later this month.
Pedestrians and bicyclists are still being kept off the bridge until late summer or early fall.
