WITC-New Richmond offering point reduction classes
Four WITC campuses around the area are offering Traffic Safety for Point Reduction classes from Jan. 21-30, Tuesday through Thursday from 6-9 p.m.
“These classes are usually taken by people who have a few too many points on their license from a speeding ticket or an accident,” said Continuing Education Assistant Sue Paulson. “Right now, failure to yield is a big deal, and there are specific classes just for that. But this class covers that too, so people can take this one without taking the other one.”
The 12-hour class, which is offered at WITC’s Ashland, Rice Lake, New Richmond and Superior campuses, is designed for people concerned about safe, defensive driving as well as those in need of point reduction. When completed, a person will be given a three-point reduction in any point total accumulated against a person’s Wisconsin driving record if they have not taken that option already in the last three years.
“It is a face-to-face, sit-down class with textbooks and work to do with an instructor,” Paulson said. “The information given in the class is about current traffic laws and has been DMV approved. We usually see about 12 to 15 students on average take the class.”
Anyone who wishes to take the class must pre-register through WITC. Weekend and Saturday classes are available. For more information, visit the WITC website at witc.edu, or call 1-800-243-9482, ext. 3112 for Ashland, ext. 5230 for Rice Lake, ext. 4221 for New Richmond and ext. 6212 for Superior.
