What started as a kernel of an idea to invite area high school students onto the Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College-New Richmond campus nearly two decades ago has transformed into a well-attended, up-close look at what WITC offers.
On Thursday, Nov. 17, WITC-New Richmond will sponsor its 17th annual high school career day. Area high school students will explore career programs through hands-on activities and discussions with WITC staff, instructors and current students. The event is planned specifically for high school juniors and seniors during this important college decision-making time.
"I visited on a Career Day and got a better understanding of what WITC has to offer," says Mary Bohn, WITC business management student and New Richmond High School graduate. "One of the hands-on activities I did that day actually gave me ideas for my artwork. Plus I'm getting college credits that cost a lot less than at the university."
Schools scheduled to attend include: Amery, Baldwin-Woodville, Clayton, Clear Lake, Frederic, Glenwood City, Grantsburg, Hudson, Luck, New Richmond, Osceola, Siren, Somerset, St. Croix Central, St. Croix Falls, Unity, Webster, Ellsworth, Prescott and River Falls, bringing nearly 400 students to the WITC-New Richmond campus.
WITC will also highlight its centennial display, "Making History by Making Futures - Career Day 2011," the same day.
