Woman accused of theft from mother
A felony theft charge has been filed against an elderly New Richmond woman in connection with the alleged misappropriation of more than $100,000 from a joint account with her mother.
The criminal complaint, filed by the St. Croix County district attorney, alleges that on Aug. 6, Carolyn J. Garrison, 72, moved some $107,900 from a joint savings account with her mother in a Hudson bank into another account in Garrison's name only.
The complaint, filed Jan. 10, said Garrison's mother was judged competent Aug. 31 to make decisions for herself and live independently and wanted her money back. The mother lives with a son and her Social Security check did not cover her expenses.
Garrison expressed concern that her brother would use all the money for rent and care of their mother.
An initial hearing has been set in the case for April 4 before Judge Scott Needham.
