Woman dies after being hit by car at Staples Lake Bar
The Polk County Sheriffs Office was notified of a fight involving injuries at the Staples Lake Bar located at 1977 Polk Barron Street in Johnstown Township on Saturday, July 27, at 2:30 a.m..
Deputies, along With Cumberland First Responders and Ambulance Service responded to this call. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found multiple victims; the most serious being a unresponsive female lying the in the parking lot that had reportedly been struck by the suspect's vehicle as the vehicle fled the parking lot.
The female, Michelle S. Lowe, 35, Luck, was transported by Cumberland Ambulance to the Cumberland Hospital. Lowe did not survive her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Witnesses at the scene were able to record the license plate of the fleeing vehicle which led deputies to a residence in Barron County. With the assistance of Barron County Sheriff’ s Office, deputies from Polk County did go to this residence where they did locate the vehicle and made contact with the owner of the vehicle and a second male subject.
During the investigation at the Barron County residence, two subjects were taken into custody. A vehicle was also taken into evidence and transported to the Polk County Sheriff’ s office for processing.
Arrested at the Barron County residence were Benjamin A. Biron (26) of Comstock, Wis. who is being held on charges of Homicide by intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle and Ryan M. Mazurek (26) of Barronett, Wis. who is charged with substantial battery for injuries sustained to another victim from this incident.
The name of the deceased female is being withheld pending family notifications. This case remains under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
