OEM Fabricators Inc. of Woodville will be celebrating a "funeral" May 19. Not because business is bad, but because it's good.

"Tired of losing sleep over the economy? Blood pressure marginal listening to the naysayers? Looking forward to the days of frying bigger fish?" asked Mike Smith, vice president of sales for OEM. "Join us as we officially (at least from our perspective) bury the recession with a New Orleans-style funeral."

Smith said the event is designed to provide some positive news during apparently gloomy times.

"For too long we've suffered through soft times in manufacturing and the negative press that comes with it, but we're saying it's over and done," he said. "On May 19 beginning at 3 p.m. we are going to announce it is time to move forward starting with an official proclamation that the recession has passed on. We are looking to unburden our employees, business partners and community by laying to rest this grotesque thing."

The "funeral" will be accompanied by the Baldwin/Woodville high school band and borrow traditions from a New Orleans-style funeral when the community joins in to celebrate the passing.

"Local businesses including McMillan Electric, Trient Technologies, iMark and the surrounding communities will party around the coffin that bears the soul of the former mind-bending economic doom," says Smith.

"If you feel as we do, bring a noise-maker or if you play an instrument, dust it off and join in the festivities," said S. Mark Tyler, president of OEM Fabricators. Tyler will serve as the "acting funeral director" at the event, said Smith.

Jambalaya and fixings for wannabe Cajuns and people saying farewell to the recession will be served up by Phoenix Bar & Grill of Baldwin on a first-come, first-served basis.

Celebrating its 25th year, OEM Fabricators Inc. is a one-stop job shop that designs and builds medium to heavy gauge components, subassemblies and turnkey products.
