WOW: Marathon bell-ringers hit $48,211
Linda Lewis of New Richmond far surpassed her $30,000 goal for this week's joint 30-hour Salvation Army bell ringing marathon.
Lewis rang her Salvation Army bell from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday night at the Walmart in New Richmond.
Lewis has partnered with Jeremy Lilyquist and Derek Gilbert of Hudson to ring bells from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday night, Dec. 12. Lilyquist and Gilbert are rining bells at County Market in Hudson.
When they were all done at 9 p.m. Wednesday, the trio had raised an astounding $48,211, well above last year's total of $37,000. The money goes toward Salvation Army programs in St. Croix County.
The local chapter of the Salvation Army has increased its Red Kettle Campaign goal to $110,000 this year, due to increasing demand for its services. Last year's goal was $100,000.
Funds continue to be collected at every Red Kettle site in St. Croix County from Hudson to Baldwin. Sites include:
Hudson: Walmart, Family Fresh, Fleet Farm, Green Mill, Papa Murphy's and Walgreens.
New Richmond: Family Fresh, Walmart and Super America.
Baldwin: Nilssen's Grocery.
