Young Eagles soar into town
Free airplane rides will be given to youth ages 8 to 17 during the Young Eagles event from 9 a.m. until noon at the New Richmond Regional Airport on Saturday, Oct. 25.
In the last four years more than 165 kids have participated in the Young Eagles event in New Richmond.
The mission of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EEA) pilots is to provide a motivational aviation experience, focusing on a free demonstration flight in an airplane.
Volunteer EEA pilots have flown one million young people in the 10-year period ending Dec. 17, 2003, the 100th anniversary of the Wright Brothers first flight at Kitty Hawk, N.C.
Now, EEA members are working on their second million youth flights, with a total of more than 1.4 million youth flown to date.
A parent or guardian must sign an EEA permission form before their child(ren) will be allowed to take off. Permission forms will be available at the event, or by request in advance.
Parents are allowed, but not required, to accompany their child(ren) on the flight. Children are encouraged to be on their own during the flight.
The event will be held at the north ramp of the airport, which is accessible from the North Hangar entrance off County Road CC.
