Youth Fun Day is Aug. 20
Youth Fun Day, sponsored by the New Richmond Area Youth Sports Association, will be held at Hatfield Park Saturday, Aug. 20.
The event will be held from 1-4 p.m. . The NRAYSA is a collective association for the New Richmond youth programs in football, soccer, baseball and girls softball. Each of these sports groups will be holding events at the Youth Fun Day. The football association will be holding a Punt, Pass and Kick contest, in association with the New Richmond Knights of Columbus.
The baseball and softball associations will be holding distance hitting contests and the soccer association will be sponsoring skills competitions.
There will also be a radar gun set up, so people can learn how fast they throw.
All these competitions are free of charge. Concessions and merchandise from the sports associations will be available. There will also be literature available on the sports associations for those who want to learn more about the youth athletic programs.
Among the other events planned for the day is a silent auction. Items up for auction include tickets from the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Wild, plus many other sports items and equipment.
The fund-raising raffle will also be completed at 4 p.m. Grand prize will be 35 percent of the proceeds, first prize will be 10 percent and second prize will be 5 percent. There will also be eight other winners who will receive $150 each.
Youth Fun Day is open to the public.
Youth football starts
Football for New Richmond students going into fifth and sixth grades starts next Monday, Aug. 15.
Fifth and sixth grade football is part of the NRAYSA. Football will start with equipment being handed out on Aug. 15 at New Richmond High School, at the equipment shed behind the high school building. Equipment will be handed out from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Anyone interested in playing who has not signed up should show up at the equipment handout. Eighty kids have already signed up for the football program.
The first night of football will be Tuesday, Aug. 23 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This will be evaluation night, so the players can divided equally into teams.
Practices for the football program can start any time after Aug. 29. After a couple weeks of practice, there will be five weeks of games. Playoffs will then be held in late October.
Coaches are still needed for the youth football program. Anyone interested in coaching should contact Mark Singerhouse at 246-2595.
