Old Gem troupe travels to ‘Oz’

The Old Gem Theater’s first session of summer musical theater students will present their production of “Wizard of Oz” on Thursday July 25, at 7 p.m., Friday, July 26, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 27, at 10:30 a.m.

Based on L. Frank Baum’s classic book, “Wizard of Oz” follows Dorothy, a little girl from Kansas, as she journeys through the wondrous land of Oz. On the way she meets the clever Scarecrow, a rusty Tin Woodcutter and a Cowardly Lion along with a host of whimsical monkeys, quirky guards, magical trees and of course, the Wicked Witch of the West.

“Wizard of Oz” features popular tunes, including “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “If I Only Had a Brain” and “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.”

The all-student cast of “Wizard of Oz” features: Stephanie Lustig (Somerset), Amy Lippman (Hudson), Claire Bodlovick (Somerset), Adaire MacSwainl (Hudson), Peyton Polling (Hudson), Payton Bahr (Star Prairie), Renee Nelson (Hudson), Jennifer Holter (Hudson), Afton Noll (New Richmond), Emma Wallraff (New Richmond), Kylie Anderson (Somerset), Katie Counter (New Richmond), Elizabeth Counter (New Richmond) and Rebecca Hartl (New Richmond).

The show is the culmination of the Old Gem¹s three-week intensive summer musical theater program’s first session.

The second session will begin on July 29 and will feature “Legally Blonde the Musical.” Registration for session two is still open.
