Empty Bowls slated for April 26

The date has been set for the fifth annual New Richmond Empty Bowls event.

The event will take place April 26 from 5-7 p.m. at the Community Commons.

At this time the Empty Bowls committee is looking for sponsors of the event. New Richmond Empty Bowls is organized by volunteers and runs on an almost a zero budget, which means time, services and products are donated at little or no cost so all the money can help others.

Empty Bowls was founded more than 17 years ago by a Michigan high school teacher who created ceramic bowls with his students and then sold them. The profits of the bowl sales were given to hunger-relief charities.

In New Richmond, high school ceramics students, Art Club members and all district fifth-graders, along with various district staff and students from St. Mary's School, create bowls for the Empty Bowls event. New Richmond's event raises money to help fight hunger locally. All proceeds are donated to Five Loaves Food Shelf and the New Richmond Happy Kids Backpack program.

New Richmond students started gearing up for Empty Bowls last week, when the New Richmond High School Art Club started creating their bowls.

If you would be interested in being a sponsor of the 2011 event, contact Cheryl Emerson at 715-243-7423 or email her at Sponsors will be featured on the event's T-shirts. Interested sponsors should provide their logo with their sponsorship confirmation.
