Roberts gets ready to party

Roberts residents are getting ready to celebrate this year's Roberts Good Neighbor Days May 30 - June 2.

Roberts Lions Club First Vice President Ronda Bierbrauer said this year's theme, "Roberts around the world," is a celebration of the diversity found in Roberts, as well as the international reach of the Lions organization.

The festivities will start off Thursday with the community appreciation dinner, sponsored by Citizens State Bank, and the Pie and Ice Cream Social put on by the Hazel Mackin Community Library Fundraising committee at 5:30 p.m. in the village park. Thursday will also feature a performance by Ignite Martial Arts (Hudson), live music and the presentation of the 2013 Good Neighbor Award.

On Friday, the tractor pull and slow-pitch softball tournament will start at 7 p.m., followed by live music by "Rock Brigade" and "Arch Allies."

Saturday will be the biggest day of events, featuring the 5K and one-mile run/walks at 8:30 a.m., the car show from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., the kiddie parade at 11 a.m., the kiddie tractor pull and the 4-H children's carnival at 1 p.m. The Royal Ambassador Pageant will be at 6 p.m. at Cross Lutheran Church. The Royal Ambassador grand march will be at 9 p.m. Fireworks by Phantom Fireworks will begin at dusk.

Sunday will start off with an ecumenical church service in the park by Cross Lutheran and Roberts Congregational United Church of Christ. The grand parade will be at 1 p.m. followed by pie and ice cream in the park building with music by the high school bandk. The annual demolition derby will be at 3:30 p.m.
