A New Richmond man died after he was struck by a vehicle in Barron County at around 9:35 a.m. Tuesday.

The Wisconsin State Patrol reported that William Strehlo, 67, was out of his vehicle on 19th Street, just north of 15th Avenue, when he was struck by a passing vehicle driven by Walter Wait, 86, Barron.

State Patrol officials say that Strehlo was pronounced dead at the scene.

Visibility was restricted to approximately a quarter mile on the road, according to Sgt. Rich Reichenberger, of the State Patrol’s Spooner post.

The trooper said that Strehlo’s vehicle was towing a trailer and that the trailer had a flat.

“We are not exactly sure yet where Strehlo was standing,” said Reichenberger. “We are still reconstructing the accident and investigating it.”

He added that the stretch of road on which the accident occurred is long and flat.

No charges have been filed in the accident.
