Sidewalk Café, a trio of the top string jazz artists of the Midwest, performs Friday, March 7, at the Old Gem Theater, downtown New Richmond at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 at the door.

Hailing from Minneapolis-St. Paul, Sidewalk Café plays the music popularized by guitarist Django Reinhart and legendary jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli of the Hot Club of France in 1930s Paris. This music is a favorite of all ages and is making a major comeback, championed particularly by young Lindy enthusiasts and the burgeoning dance community.

The three members of Sidewalk Café include “Prairie Home Companion” veteran Gary Schulte, one of this country’s top jazz violinists; jazz guitar virtuoso Reynold Philipsek, a favorite of jazz great Pat Martino; and bassist Jeff Brueske, who is in great demand playing with Gypsy jazz groups as well as modern jazz, fusion, and swing ensembles in the Twin Cities.

Call 715-246-3285 or 1-800-886-8035 for reservations or more information about the Old Gem Theater or visit www.oldgemtheater.com. The Old Gem now serves beer and wine.
