Dorothy A. Volkert, age 85 of New Richmond and a resident of the St. Croix Health Center for 16 years, died on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008.
Dorothy A. Volkert, age 85 of New Richmond and a resident of the St. Croix Health Center for 16 years, died on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008.
Dorothy was born the daughter of Otto and Marie (Christensen) Jorgensen on Dec. 24, 1922 in Minneapolis, Minn. She graduated with the class of 1941 from Farmington High School and attended Winona State College for two years. On Feb. 15, 1944, Dorothy was married to Arnold Volkert in Farmington, Minn. They moved to New Richmond in 1949. Dorothy and Arnold farmed and sold barn equipment (Patz) and Dorothy was the bookkeeper for the business. She belonged to the Homemakers group, was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, the St. Luke’s Ladies Aid, and was a willing helper wherever the church needed help.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Marie Jorgensen; husband, Arnold Volkert; and grandson, Adam Volkert.
She is survived by her children, Richard Volkert and wife, Susan, of New Richmond, Ronald Volkert and wife, Ann, also of New Richmond, and Kathy O’Brien and husband, Mark, of Hastings, Minn.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sisters, Margaret Gjerning and Harriet Fossum.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at noon at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in New Richmond. Visitation was held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the church. Interment was in the New Richmond Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Eric Cullen, Chris Cullen, Mark O’Brien, and John Peterson. Memorials may be directed to the St. Luke’s Ladies Aid. Thank you to the St. Croix County Health Center for the special care received for the last 16 years.
