An interactive land use workshop to discuss future land uses for the Town of Star Prairie will be held at the new Town Hall, 2118 Cook Drive, on Tuesday, April 29, and Thursday, May 1, at 7 p.m. each evening.
The workshop will be conducted over two nights to allow participants sufficient time to review information, develop mapping scenarios and provide feedback on specific future land uses.
Individual flyers are being sent to all residents and landowners in Star Prairie. Everyone is invited to attend the workshop and although participants are encouraged to attend both evenings, it is not required.
The first night of the workshop will focus on an interactive slide show of land uses where participants will generate a list of land uses they think are appropriate in the town.
The second evening will be a land use mapping exercise to identify potential locations for the list of identified land uses.
Plan Commission and Town Board members will be part of the workshop. The Plan Commission has completed the majority of the plan including: socio-economic background; issues and opportunities; utilities and community facilities; transportation; housing; economic development; agricultural, natural and cultural resources; and intergovernmental cooperation.
The Plan Commission is now working on the most significant element -- land use. The Plan Commission and Town Board members want to hear from local residents about future land uses and where they should be located. Citizen input will be essential to developing this section.
Prior to the workshop, residents are encouraged to review the Town’s survey results, vision statement and land use section. This information is available on the Internet at: www.co.saint-croix.wi.us/localgovernment.htm, choose Star Prairie Town Plan.
They are also encouraged to RSVP to the contacts identified below to assist in planning for the evenings.
The workshop will be presented by UW-Extension County Resource Agent Pete Kling and St. Croix County Senior Planner Ellen Denzer. The Town has contracted with St. Croix County and UW-Extension to provide assistance in developing the plan.
The Town of Star Prairie is developing a town comprehensive plan under Wisconsin’s comprehensive planning law as a tool to guide future growth.
By Jan. 1, 2010, all communities that make land use decisions, including zoning and subdivision ordinances, will need to base those decisions on an adopted comprehensive plan. The Town Plan Commission has been working on the town plan since November 2005.
The Town Plan Commission has held six additional events since the beginning of the project to gather public input.
A kickoff workshop identified issues or concerns of the Town of Star Prairie property owners and residents, a survey gathered opinions on those and other issues and a visioning workshop focused on the town’s future and what should be.
Also three open houses have been held to present the results of the work on the plan to the public throughout the project. Summaries and the results of these events can also be viewed at the Web site identified above.
If you have questions, comments, or suggestions before or after the workshop or plan to attend please contact either: Senior Planner Ellen Denzer at 715-386-4673 or firstname.lastname@example.org or Plan Commission Chair Scott Counter at 715-246-4343 or email@example.com.
