The Hammond Art Alliance has set a fund-raising event featuring some popular local artists.

The event, which will take place at the River Falls Golf Course, Saturday, April 5, will showcase the talents of Gene Lafond and the Wild Unknown headlining from 7-10 p.m., with special guests Fizz Kizer and Johnathan Earl from 6-7 p.m.

Gene Lafond and the Wild Unknown’s music ranges from blues to rock to country to irreverent folk. The band’s Web site describes their style of music as “folk rattle & roll.”

According to the group’s site, their songs grew out of the experiences Lafond had as a founding member of the band “The Mere Mortals,” performing twice at Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit Concert in San Francisco, opening for Bob Dylan, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Kinky Friedman, and many more.

Gene LaFond and The Wild Unknown perform regularly throughout the Twin Cities area and the Midwest.

The Jonathan Earl band is a four-piece rock band from Minneapolis. Earl’s sound is described as having solid grooves, memorable melodies and inspiring solos, heavily influenced by the blues and funk.

Fizz Kizer is a singer/songwriter from River Falls and last year began a showcase venue called “The HonkyTonk Cafe” in River Falls.

Entry into the event is $10. Visit www.myspace.com/hammondartalliance for more info.
