New Richmond schools will keep schedule

The New Richmond School District has been conducting informational meetings for parents and community members to explain upcoming changes in school start times, school attendance areas and busing schedules.

After considering public opinion and all other factors, District Administrator Morrie Veilleux said all New Richmond schools will continue to start at approximately the same time in 2008.

This means the school day will begin around 8 a.m. for most students and end around 3 p.m.

“While there are no definite start times for each school yet,” Veilleux explained, “we won’t move forward with changing start times. We are working on the busing schedule to see that the three elementary schools, St. Mary’s, the Middle and High Schools will have schedules based on the same time frame as now.”

Some adjusting of bus schedules should accomplish the intended goal, according to Veilleux.

In the fall, buses will be assigned to demographic areas and will only have to pick up and leave off students at one elementary school, the Middle School and the High School during their runs.

This may affect school start times plus or minus about five minutes, said Veilleux, but not substantially.

If any parents are still not certain which school(s) their child(ren) will attend in the fall, they may contact Brian Johnston, director of Fiscal and Building Operations for the District at 243-7414.
