Somerset senior Jeff Burke has been selected to play for Team Wisconsin in the upcoming Chicago Showcase.
The Chicago Showcase is perhaps the most prestigious tournament a high school hockey player can take part in. Scouts from colleges, junior teams and professional teams flock to this tournament to get a look at many of the top high school seniors in the country.
The tournament will be played from April 16-20 in Bensenville, a suburb of Chicago. Team Wisconsin will consist of the top 20 qualifying high school seniors as selected by the team’s coaches.
Burke is a two-time all-state selection. He was chosen as an all-state player this season though the big defenseman was slowed by injuries for a large part of the season. Burke finished the 2007-08 season with seven goals and nine assists for 16 points.
Several players from western Wisconsin made this year’s Team Wisconsin roster. Trent Frey of River Falls will be one of the team’s forwards.
Eau Claire Memorial’s state championship team had three players selected for Team Wisconsin. Goaltender Brady Sand, defenseman David Donnellan and forward Jefferson Dahl were all selected from the Old Abes.
Tim Smith of Superior, Casey Kirley of Hayward and Matt Millis of Black River Falls also made the team.
