The second annual Monica Jensen Scholarship Run will be held this Saturday at Mary Park in New Richmond.
The race is being held to honor the former New Richmond High School standout athlete. Monica (Walz) and her twin sister, Missy Dierks, were top athletes in several sports at NRHS. They were known for their heart and fierce competitive nature. After high school they became accomplished distance runners. Monica battled melanoma for several years, but continued to compete when her health would allow.
Money raised will go toward the Monica Jensen Scholarship Fund and Melanoma Research at the Mayo Clinic. Jensen died a year ago, with this year’s race being held on the first anniversary of her passing.
Pre-registration for the race is complete, with more than 450 people already signed up for the race. Those registering on the day of the race will be charged $35 per person. Those registering the morning of the race are asked to begin registering at 8 a.m.
The 5K race will begin at 9 a.m. Roads will be blocked off for the safety of the runners and walkers.
A free half-mile kids race will be held following the Scholarship Run.
Anyone seeking more information on the event can contact Beth Kelly at (715) 246-7625. More information can be found on the race Web site at: www.fightformonica.com.

The timing system will be provided by Appleraceberryjam.com. All runners and walkers will be given their time this year.
