Lastings Milledge hit a two-run homer, his first as a Pirate, and Ross Ohlendorf pitched seven-plus solid innings, as Pittsburgh earned a 5-2 win over Milwaukee in the second test of a three-game series at PNC Park.
Delwyn Young added a solo shot, while Andy LaRoche had a pair of hits, including an RBI single, for the Pirates, who have won two straight after dropping 12 of their previous 13 games.
Ohlendorf, 11-8, allowed one run on five hits, struck out five and walked two in lowering his earned run average to 4.15 this season.
The right-hander improved to 5-2 in his last seven decisions and 8-2 in 13 home starts.
Prince Fielder hit his 32nd home run of the season for Milwaukee, which has lost three in a row. Manny Parra took the loss.
The Milwaukee Brewers are working on a trade that would send Bill Hall to another team.
Hall was designated for assignment last week, and the Brewers have 10 days to release him, trade him, or send him to the minors.
But Hall would have to accept that minor-league assignment, and he and the Brewers don't want that option so general manager Doug Melvin says he'll try to ship Hall to another team in the next day or two.
Melvin says he's seen some interest, but he won't say which teams are involved.
