St. Croix Central reaches WIAA State Baseball Tournament for first time

The St. Croix Central baseball team has reached the WIAA State Baseball Championships for the first time in school history.

The St. Croix Central baseball team has reached the WIAA State Baseball Championships for the first time in school history.

The Panthers played their way into the WIAA Division 3 state tournament by winning the Spencer sectional tournament on Tuesday.

In the sectional championship game, Central rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat Park Falls 7-4.

Central won its sectional semifinal game behind another impressive pitching performance from Mark Shaver. Shaver threw a three-hitter as Central eliminated Osseo-Fairchild 2-0.

St. Croix Central is scheduled to face Marathon at noon next Wednesday at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton in the Division 3 state semifinals. The winner of Wednesday’s game will advance to Thursday’s state championship game.
