Lorna Dorothea Krueger, age 102, of Hammond, passed away June 1, 2008 at the American Heritage Care Center.
She was born July 24, 1905, one of 10 children of August and Wilhelmina (Kaphingst) Urtel, on the family farm in Woodbury Township, Minn. She grew up speaking German. For a few years, Lorna worked as a seamstress in a clothing factory. When she married Raymond W. Krueger, she became a farmer’s wife and worked very hard. They were blessed with two children, Marjorie and William.
Throughout her life, Lorna crocheted, tatted, sewed, gardened and baked; she loved to sing, performing solos at church, and was even singing until her last days -- people at the care center will remember this and that she was always moved to dance when music was playing. Lorna was very healthy; she never had a major illness, and with the exception of her children’s births, she was never in the hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; two grandchildren; and seven siblings.
Lorna is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Strate, of Roberts, Wis.; son, William “Bill” (Eileen) Krueger of Hastings, Minn.; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; sister, Eldora “Mickey” (Albert “Bud”) Richert and brother, Clarence “Bud” (Emily) Urtel.
A private burial was held at Union Cemetery in St. Paul, Minn. A memorial service for Lorna will be held on Saturday, June 21, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 1975 St. John’s Dr., Woodbury. Memorials are preferred.
Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, 715-386-3725. www.oconnellfuneralhomes.com
