Wisconsin was the nation’s fourth-largest producer of maple syrup this spring.

Wisconsin was the nation’s fourth-largest producer of maple syrup this spring.

The New England Agricultural Service said the Badger State made 130,000 gallons of the sweet stuff.

That’s just more than a quarter of what top-producing Vermont made.

About 1.6 million gallons of maple syrup were made nationally, 30 percent more than last year.

Vermont made 11 percent more.

New York moved into second place.

Maine dropped from second to third, and was the only state to have a decline in syrup production.

Wisconsin made about 85,000 fewer gallons than Maine.

Ohio was fifth, with 118,000 gallons, 12,000 fewer than Wisconsin.
