Economy was the buzz-word as the Wisconsin Farm Technology Days show opened Tuesday near Greenleaf in Brown County.

With diesel fuel nearing $5 a gallon, many of the 600 vendors were quizzed about fuel efficiency. Farmers compared the operating costs of the new units to the older ones they have now.

A display on high-tech windmills is proving to be popular.

So is a bio-energy demonstration that removes water from manure, burns the manure, and puts the steam in a turbine to produce electricity.

More than 50,000 people are expected to attend the Wisconsin Farm Technology Days which run through Thursday.
