Roger Palek, attorney for former Roberts Police Chief Ricci Prein, said he wasn’t surprised by the decision of the Police Review Board to dismiss Prein from his position.

“It wasn’t anything I didn’t expect,” he said.

However, he said his client isn’t stopping with the Board’s decision.

Palek said they are looking at all their possible routes of action, and it’s “fairly unlikely” that they will allow the PRB decision to stand untested.

On Aug. 12, Prein filed an appeal with St. Croix County Circuit Court against the Police Review Board’s decision to terminate him from his position as chief.

An additional option for Prein includes appealing the declaratory judgment that was rejected on July 29 to prevent the PRB from hearing the case to the Court of Appeals.

They could also file a Writ of Certiorari. If that was to happen, they would ask the courts to determine if the PRB made legal errors. That needs to be filed within the next six months.
